Remains of Myshonique Maddox, Georgia woman missing since July, found in Alabama woods

The remains of a Georgia woman reported missing last month were found in Alabama over the weekend.
Myshonique Shontrell Maddox, 28, was reported missing out of Columbus on July 22.
On Sunday, someone reached out to the Lee County Sheriff’s Office about a body found in a wooded area in Salem, Alabama, about 22 miles west of Columbus. The body was found near the Russell County line, the Lee County Sheriff’s Office wrote in a Facebook post.
The remains were taken to the Alabama Department of Forensic Sciences and were identified as Maddox.
Jimmy Taylor, chief investigator with the Lee County Sheriff's Office, said Wednesday morning that authorities don't know whether her death was a homicide.
"We're still working," he said. "There was some talk that she was in Russell County, Alabama. We're all working together to try to figure out what's going on ... It's a sad situation, I know that."

Investigating the case are the Lee County Sheriff’s Office, the Columbus Georgia Police Department and the Russell County Sheriff’s Office.
Officials ask that anyone with information contact the Lee County Sheriff’s Office at 334-749-5651 or Central Alabama Crime Stoppers at 334-215-7867.
USA TODAY reached out for more information but did not immediately receive a response from authorities.
